Food Heaven in Canggu, Bali

Most of my last month of travelling was spent on the beautiful island of Bali, Indonesia. It has always been calling me, and finally I managed to make a trip happen; where I experienced the most amazing spiritual awakening (more of that to come). I spent most of the time in Ubud, but popped down to Canggu for a long weekend to soak up the surf, and the incredible food scene in this town. Here are a few of my highlights:

The Shady Shack

This place came highly recommended by a couple of people and didn't disappoint! Their menu is full of healthy, plant-based, tasty goodness and the atmosphere is beautiful. It overlooks a rice paddy and is decorated in the classic Canggu white and wood, with plants everywhere and a lovely bohemian beach feel. I went there for breakfast twice, and actually got the same thing both times!! This Cacao Dreams smoothie bowl is probably one of the best I have ever eaten; pure chocolatey, creamy, indulgent goodness on a Sunday morning! They also do their coffees with any type of milk you like; a vegan/dairy-free dream.

Betelnut Cafe

I spent a lot of my time working online while in Bali and I had read that Betelnut has wifi and plug socket so it was a must-visit! It also has a downstairs air-conditioned area which is perfect to escape from the heat of the day with your laptop. In much need of brain food and having travelled around South East Asia with very few veggies on the menu THIS salad bowl blew my mind. This place is on the pricier scale of food-places in Canggu, but well known for it's fresh menu and for being the perfect hipster hang-out.

The Lawn

THE MOST EXPENSIVE but the most delicious mushroom, truffle and ricotta bruschetta you will ever have (maybe a slight exaggeration but when the rest of Asia is so cheap....) but you;re paying for the setting in this place. So much more than a restaurant, this place has an infinity pool overlooking one of the most popular surf spots in Bali, a bar, and live music in the evenings and on the weekends. Their menu is superb but pricey, but if you're just visiting for a holiday or just fancy a big blow-out, check this place out.

Echo Beach Favourites

My favourite cheap brekkie spot is Dian's Cafe down by Echo Beach (check out that view!) - they do really reasonably-priced eggs benedict, perfect for a post-surf refuel. Next to there, right on the corner and not pictured, is a restaurant that does awesome seafood. They have a new fresh selection every day, you pay for which type of seafood you want and they grill it there in front of you, and you get unlimited salad/rice buffet sides!

There's also a spot on Echo Beach that does these beautifully fresh, veggie-packed poke bowls; the perfect place to have a pre-dinner snack, with a beer, to watch THIS sunset, every night....#nofilter #noreally

A perfect spot to work and satisfy all your vegan sweet-treat requirements, Cafe Organic has a really lovely, bright atmosphere to it and if you sit outside you can watch the world go by on one of the main roads in Canggu - perfect for people watching! They have a full smoothie and juice menu as well as breakfast and lunch! I did not have enough days to try everything!

So there you have it! A few of my highlights from my few days in Canggu. There are so many other great restaurants and cafes in this town; if you're into food, surfing and yoga, get yourself over there ASAP!
